Reading - The Magic Word Maker

Read the text and complete the activities below.

English is a very old language, but it changes every day. Many years ago, a man named William Shakespeare lived in England. He was a writer for the theater. People love his stories because they are about life, love, and problems.

But Shakespeare was special for another reason. He loved to play with words! He created more than 1,000 new words for the English language. Today, we use these words in our houses, in our jobs, and with our friends.

For example, look at your house. Do you see a bedroom? Shakespeare used that word first! Do you have a manager at work? He used that word too. When you are fast, you hurry. When a movie is not good, it is lackluster. These words are all from his imagination. English is a "big family" of words, and Shakespeare is a very important member of this family.
