Before people go to the crowded street festivals, they often start the evening at a traditional "Botequim" or "Boteco". These are simple, classic neighborhood bars in Brazil. You won't find fancy decorations there. Instead, you find plastic chairs on the sidewalk, cold beer served in small "americano" glasses, and amazing bar snacks like coxinha or bolinho de bacalhau. For many adults, the boteco is the perfect place to catch up with friends and "warm up" before joining the loud party on the main streets.
