Vocabulary - Having a BBQ

In English-speaking countries, you will see the letters BBQ everywhere! BBQ is an abbreviation for Barbecue. We use it in three main ways:

The Event: A party where food is cooked outside. (Ex: "Are you coming to our Sunday BBQ?")
The Food: Food cooked on a grill or with smoky sauce. (Ex: "I love BBQ ribs.")
The Equipment: The machine used to cook the food. (Ex: "Clean the BBQ after use.")

• Grill: A metal frame used for cooking food over a fire.
  • Put the meat on the grill, please.
• Sausage: A food item made of minced meat in a tube shape.
  • I love eating grilled sausages with bread.
• Steak: A large, thick piece of meat, usually beef.
  • He wants a big steak for dinner.
• Sides: Small dishes of food served with the main meat (like salad or rice).
  • Potato salad and rice are my favorite sides.
• Skewers: Long pieces of wood or metal used to hold small pieces of meat.
  • We are making chicken skewers today.
• Charcoal: Black pieces of wood used to make fire for the BBQ.
  • We need more charcoal for the fire.
