Speaking - National Streaming Day (USA)

National Streaming Day is celebrated every May 20th in the United States to honor the anniversary of the first streaming device. It's the perfect time to talk about our favorite digital pastimes.

Before you record yourself or speak with a partner, read through the vocabulary and expressions below to build your confidence!

Vocabulary

• Binge-watch: To watch many episodes of a TV series in one sitting.
• Example: On rainy Sundays, I love to binge-watch entire seasons of sci-fi shows.
• Subscription: A regular payment made to have access to a service like Netflix or Disney+.
• Example: I have a monthly subscription to three different streaming platforms.
• Original series: A TV show produced specifically by a streaming platform, not for traditional cable.
• Example: Stranger Things is one of the most famous original series on Netflix.
• Spoiler: Information that reveals important plot points and ruins the surprise for others.
• Example: Please don't tell me the ending! I don't want any spoilers.
• Algorithm: A set of rules used by a platform to suggest new shows based on what you’ve already watched.
• Example: The algorithm suggested a great documentary that I really enjoyed.

Useful Expressions

• "I'm hooked on..." (Used when you are addicted to a show).
• "It’s a must-watch." (Used to recommend something highly).
• "I tend to..." (Used to describe a habit).
• "To be honest..." (Used to give a personal, sincere opinion).
• "I can't get enough of..." (Used when you really like something).
